AIReadinessAIQ (“the app”) helps Shopify merchants measure and improve how well AI shopping assistants can read their products. It scans product catalogs for AI readiness issues, generates AI-assisted fixes for product text and structured data, and saves approved changes to products. This page describes how merchant data is handled.
What we access
- Product catalog data (titles, descriptions, product type, category, and images) via the Shopify Admin API scopes granted at install:
read_products,write_products,read_files,write_files. File scopes are used solely to read and update product image alt text via the Files API. - Shop and billing identifiers to manage subscriptions and AI credit allowance.
- Scan results, AI Readiness Scores, and a credit usage ledger stored in our application database.
How the AI Readiness Score works
The AI Readiness Score is computed from your product data on our own servers using deterministic checks. The Score itself does not call any third-party AI service.
Third-party AI: Google (Gemini)
Some optional features send product data to Google’s Gemini AI service, and only when you enable the AI readability scan or request an AI fix:
- Product text (title, description, and product type) is sent for the AI readability check and for the listing rewrite, attribute fill, meta description, FAQ, and category suggestion fixes.
- A product image is sent only for the alt text fix, so the model can describe the image and propose alt text. No other feature sends image content.
These calls run only when you turn on the AI scan or request a specific fix. No AI fix is saved to your store until you review it and choose to save. Do not include personal data (names, addresses, or private identifiers) in product titles, descriptions, or images, as that content would be transmitted to Google under their terms. The Google Privacy Policy applies.
Data retention and deletion
We retain scan results, scores, and the usage ledger to provide the service. When you uninstall the app, or on a verified request, we delete the shop’s stored data in line with Shopify’s mandatory data-erasure webhooks (shop/redact, customers/redact, customers/data_request). The app does not collect end-customer personal data, so a customers/data_request returns no data and a customers/redact requires no action.
Billing
All paid charges are processed by Shopify. We do not store payment card details. AI credits and plan details are described on the pricing section of our home page and in the app.
